Furniture Friends was founded in 2012 with the belief that every person deserves a home that is safe and comfortable. Our experience has shown us that this safety and comfort is not equally accessible to all people in our community – and that black, indigenous, and people of color experience poverty at much higher rates than their white neighbors. Furniture Friends is committed to antiracism in our work to ensure that we are building safer, more secure communities for all our neighbors. As a majority-white organization that serves a larger constituency of people of color, we know that we must support peaceful efforts meant to bring change to a system that oppresses and discriminates against black people and other minorities.
We can do better. We must do better. Black Lives Matter.
Furniture Friends’ board and staff are deeply saddened by the deaths of George Floyd and other black men and women due to police brutality. We are distressed by the disproportionate impact COVID-19 has had on communities of color. We acknowledge the deep pain and fear that exists within communities of color and denounce all forms of institutional racism and racial violence.

Additionally, we will continue to:
- Learn about the racism that exists that prevents people from obtaining the basic resources needed to live a productive life and support anti-racist policies and practices that undo those barriers;
- Affirm the inherent worth and dignity of all of our clients as well as our staff and volunteers;
- Promote diversity in our staff and board; and
- Call out hate and discrimination whenever we see it.
We can do better. We must do better. Black Lives Matter.
