Meet Sophia Doremus
We’re excited to introduce Sophia Doremus as our new Community Engagement Coordinator!
Originally from Natick, Massachusetts, Sophia is a graduate of Plymouth State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Planning with a Minor in Sustainability. She moved to Maine in January 2022 and quickly fell in love with the state’s natural beauty and vibrant communities.
Before joining Furniture Friends, Sophia worked as a STEM Program Assistant at the Boys and Girls Club in Portland, where she supported hands-on learning and youth development. She went on to serve as the Program Coordinator for the Public Health Youth Development AmeriCorps Program at Goodwill NNE. In that role, she supported AmeriCorps members throughout their term of service.
With a strong foundation in volunteer management and a deep passion for community building, Sophia is excited to bring her creativity, organization, and energy to her new role. She is committed to helping volunteers feel supported, empowered, and equipped to make a lasting impact.
Outside of work, Sophia enjoys exploring Maine, staying active, and expressing herself through art and creativity. She’s also a big fan of a good TV show binge—and sharing life with her very large (and very sweet!) orange cat, Gilligan.
Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Sophia—we’re thrilled to have her on board!
