10 years ago I arrived in Maine as an asylum seeker, homeless and jobless. When I finally found housing I still had to sleep on the floor because I didn't have any furniture at all. Not even a single chair. I was referred to you [Furniture Friends] after a couple of weeks and within days you helped make my empty apartment feel like a home. When I came to your warehouse, I was mesmerized by one of the paintings and the warehouse manager offered for me to pick one to hang in my new apartment, and I was happy to take it with me. I still have it to this day, hanging in my living room. It has followed me through everything: several moves, getting married and starting a family. It's my very first possession in this country, one that made me feel at home again. Thank you for creating comfort for immigrants who have been forced to lose everything.
Everyday Furniture Friends provides a mother with a chair to relax and put her feet up, an elderly neighbor with a comfortable bed to sleep in, a newly housed family with a table to share a meal. In order to get these basic essentials to the community, we have to plan for the organizational expenses which make our work possible. Your recurring gifts allow us to do just that.
Recurring Support to our Annual Fund provides:
- Gas, insurance and maintenance for our 2 delivery vehicles.
- Rent and utilities for our warehouse in Westbrook, ME.
- Communications, news and updates to our 6,000+ friends and supporters throughout Maine.
- 6 full-time staff to run programming, organize volunteers, pick-up donated items, communicate with clients, deliver furniture and help turn houses into homes.
