Furniture Friends is a Maine-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who visits our website, donates to our mission, volunteers with us, or connects with us in any way. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we keep it safe.

We collect information in two ways: when you provide it directly, and automatically when you visit our site.

Information You Provide

  • Donor information: name, mailing address, email address, and payment information when you make a gift online or sign up for recurring giving.
  • Contact form submissions: name, email address, and the content of your message.
  • Volunteer sign-ups: name, email address, and any availability or skills information you share.
  • Newsletter subscriptions: name and email address.
  • Client referral information: submitted by referring case managers and partner agencies on behalf of individuals seeking furniture assistance. This information is kept strictly confidential.

 

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit furniturefriends.org, our website may collect standard technical information, including your browser type, device type, pages visited, and general geographic location (city/region level). This information helps us understand how people use our site so we can improve it. We do not use this data to identify you personally.

Information submitted through our Client Referral process — including the names, contact details, and circumstances of individuals seeking furniture assistance — is treated with the highest level of confidentiality. This information is used solely to coordinate furniture delivery and is never shared publicly or used for fundraising or marketing purposes without explicit, informed consent.

 

  1. Donor Privacy

Furniture Friends respects the privacy of our donors. We do not sell or share donor lists. Donors may request that their names not appear in public donor listings (such as our Annual Report) by contacting us at the information below. We honor anonymous gift requests.

 

  1. How We Protect Your Information

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. Online donations are processed through secure, encrypted payment systems. We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law (see our Records Retention Policy for details).
