Furniture Friends is a volunteer-based, nonprofit (501C-3) organization that provides high quality donated furniture to people in desperate need throughout Greater Portland.
Create Homes and Rebuild Lives
Believe it or not, people are living in bare apartments right here in Portland.
Right here in Portland? That’s not okay.
Children are Sleeping on Floors
People Have No Place To Sit Down
Veterans without a dining table on which to serve dinner
homeless are threatened with the prospect of slipping back
Families who have escaped unimaginable traumas
In 2016, Furniture Friends served over 400 families and individuals in need by providing the furniture that helped them create new homes for themselves. In so doing, they began the process of rebuilding their lives.
By providing people with essential furniture, Furniture Friends:
- helps children get a good night’s rest by providing beds for them in which to sleep,
- provides comfort and security to people suffering from physical, mental, and other chronic illnesses,
- aids families fleeing war-torn countries in transitioning to permanent housing,
- supports people who have been homeless by helping create safe and stable housing,
- and, restores dignity and respect to veterans who have served our country and who’ve fallen on hard times.
How Does It Work?
We partner with local social service providers, hospitals, faith-based organizations, municipalities, and schools to identify people in need within our service area, which includes: Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth, South Portland, Portland, Westbrook and Falmouth. [Refer a Client Here].
Where Do We Get The Furniture?
We receive our high quality furniture from donors throughout the Greater Portland area. We focus only on collecting the types of furniture that will serve as the essential building blocks for a new home. It helps us immensely when donors drop off their donations at our warehouse at 15 Saunders Way in Westbrook, Loading Dock 400, but we do also provide a donation pick up service. How Do You Volunteer?
Turning bare living spaces into “homes” can be a very rewarding experience. We are always looking for good volunteer drivers, warehouse helpers, and delivery helpers. [Volunteer Here].
How Do You Support Furniture Friends?
Support our effort by writing a check to “Furniture Friends” and sending it to :

or by clicking here [Support Using Paypal].
We operate efficiently with a hard-working volunteer Board of Directors, two full-time staff, three part-time staff, one box truck and very limited warehouse space so most of our funding goes directly to our efforts to serve more and more people in need.
We do have a lot of heart and positive energy and, of course, we couldn’t do it without a growing community of volunteers and supporters so please give as generously as you can.
